TRYOUTS FAQ's
1. Are teams being formed by grade year for the Fall 2026/Spring 2027 season?
Answer: Yes. US Soccer has determined that teams and league competitions will be formed by grade year (as opposed to birth year) as of the Fall 2026 season. Please see below graphic for age group specifications. PLEASE NOTE: August birthdays will still tryout with their grade year.
2. When will I know if my child has been offered a spot on a team?
Answer: We try to send as many offers out as possible by the final day of tryouts, however, typically we do not finalize rosters until the Friday of each tryout week. Some players may hear back sooner than others but that does NOT necessarily mean your player has not been offered a spot.
3. Can my player play in an older age group than their grade year?
Answer: Typically the majority of players will play within their grade year. There are some specific scenarios where players may play up an age group, or in a combined age group. If this is of interest to your player, please reach out to michael@athleticsoccerclub.org for more information.
4. Does my player need to attend all 3 nights?
Answer: We highly encourage players to attend all 3 nights (particularly those new to the club). The first two nights especially are crucial to attend.
5. What if we are not available for tryouts?
Answer: Email Michael@athleticsoccerclub.org
6. Does my child need to attend VERO FC tryouts (U13-19 only) and Athletic SC tryouts?
Answer: For any players interested in trying out for our U13-U19 regional level teams, formed through a coalition of North Alabama clubs - VERO FC - those tryouts will take place prior to Athletic SC tryouts. If your player is not wanting to tryout for, or does not end up being placed on a VERO FC team, they HAVE TO register for and attend Athletic SC tryouts. Please note more info on VERO FC is coming soon!
